It’s not really an ordinary moment because it only happens once a year, but this week my photo is from our visit to meet Santa at the Keydell Garden Centre in Horndean, Hampshire. I’m not sure who was more excited about it – the kids or me! Last year the boys were a bit scared of things (especially Santa!) but this year they ran around patting the snowmen, hugging the figures of Santa and stroking all of the real animals that were part of the attraction. E didn’t even show a flicker of fear as we sat her on the lap of this Santa model, she just stared up at him with big, wide eyes.
Christmas is coming. My sons are so excited, and so am I. I love Christmas – the decorations, the carols, the family time, the traditions, the food…everything that makes this festive time of the year so magical. I love giving and receiving presents, but I want my children to grow up knowing that Christmas isn’t just about presents and Santa.

On Saturday, I went to the Mumsnet Blogfest event in London. It was a huge gathering of parent bloggers at a swish venue involving lots of though provoking sessions and cake. And cocktails. And gin.
Nice work if you can get it eh?
Quite a few people have asked me how our plans to emigrate are coming along. Well, it’s a very, very slow process and there isn’t a huge amount to tell you. We’re moving forward but there’s a lot of waiting between each stage. As each phase of paperwork gets submitted we’re preparing the paperwork for the next application so we can keep everything moving without any unnecessary delays. We should have more news around Christmas, so watch this space.
